Saturday, July 25 marks one full year since the Venezuela TPS Act of 2019 passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The Senate version of the bill has been stalled in the Senate ever since it narrowly failed to pass by unanimous vote shortly thereafter. Today, on July 24, WOLA and its partners are launching a ‘Day of Action’ around this anniversary to call on the Trump administration, DHS, the U.S. Senate, and the Biden campaign to commit to concrete action to guarantee TPS for 200,000 Venezuelans currently living in the U.S.
As a part of this Day of Action, WOLA led the charge on a letter sent to dozens of U.S. Senators who have not yet cosponsored the Senate legislation (S. 636), urging them to do so now as pressure increases to take the bill back up in the Senate. WOLA, along with 50 international NGOs and regional civil society organizations, signed on to the letter.
